ROCfest 2022 – Our Premier Climbing Competition
ROCfest is back for 2022! Here’s everything you need to know about Manchesters ultimate climbing competition.
Taking place at Rock Over Climbing in Manchester on Saturday the 4th of June 2022. This is a climbing competition unlike any you’ve seen before. We’ve developed a unique scoring system that allows climbers of every division to compete alongside each other.
The centre will be set with 100 problems for competitors to choose from; each numbered from 1-100. The number the route is marked with, is equal to the number of points you will earn for completing that problem. The grading difficulty will rise alongside the points value. You’ll also receive a bonus 5 points for each problem you flash. At the end of qualifiers, everyones points will be tallied (using your top 20 climbs) and prizes will be distributed accordingly, to each division.

Chalk Scoop
If you can scoop exactly 75g of chalk in a bag then you get to keep that bag. Be careful though – there’s only one attempt per person.
The Best Match
Take a video of you matching a route in a unique way; fist bump the hold, slap it, fingergun it, whatever. We want you to get as creative as possible and then submit your video by posting it on instagram, as a video, reel or story, with the hashtag #rocfest2022.
Your submission can not count towards your scorecard because the rules require a controlled match, to consider a problem completed.
Don’t forget to tag us since it makes it a lot easier for us to find your entry.
Pull up Challenge
How many pull ups can you complete in 30 seconds? Keep an eye on your form – no half reps here!
Same again; remember to use the hashtags #rocfest2022 and #psychi to win a prize from the Psychi trade stand.
Setters
Since our competition has 100 climbing problems, we’re bringing in as many route setters as physically possible. Our in house team, trusted freelancers and some big names in the climbing world.
Some setters you may recognise –
– Max Ayrton – who will be the head setter for the day.
– Dave Barrans
– Jamie Cassidy
-Frances Bensley
– Ian Vickers
– James Garden
– Alex Fry
– Rosaline Beveridge
Refreshments
Can’t climb like a winner without any fuel in the tank, so of course we’re not gonna let you starve.
Every tap in the centre produces drinking water so fill up your bottles as much as you like. You’ve also got the option of purchasing tea, coffee, hot chocolate and soft drinks as usual.
We’re opening up the bar especially for the competition so you can grab a beer from any time after 4pm. Choose your moment wisely though; we’ve got a strict no climbing after drinking policy.
Feeling hungry? We’ve got chilli available from the start of the day and that will be going until we run out. Vegan options will be available but if that’s not your vibe then you’re welcome to bring in snacks – we’d advise you take a quick stroll into town for other hot food.
Storage
We’ve got our usual selection of lockers and cubby holes – free for use but you must bring your own padlock.
You must keep bags and clutter away from climbing areas and and items left unattended are at the owners own risk.
